War memorial from World War 2
War memorials and German bunkers from World War 2 – Granum Gård in Fluberg
In 2023, the war memorial opened at Granum farm in Fluberg, Søndre Land. Now those interested can take the trip to Granum and follow the path with information posters that goes to the German bunker facility.
"Here, the owners of the farm, Marianne Konow and Lars Harald Weydahl, have created an arena for reflection and immersion in stories from the war years, which can also provide a basis for reconciliation.
Occupied by the Germans
During the Second World War, Granum was occupied by the Germans, who built observation towers, built a listening post and bunker facilities with crew barracks. At the same time, farm life took its course. There was also resistance fighting here and towards the end of the war, refugees who had been evacuated from Finnmark arrived.
The days and years from 1940 – 45 were chaotic, the future unpredictable and unclear for the people who experienced it. Today, history is filtered, told many times, there are basic narratives about heroes, friends and enemies. But there are also stories that are still not so well known. Like the story at Granum where the people come forward; the meetings, the dilemmas and having to live everyday with the enemy. Respect and community can arise across ideologies and enemy images.
What do we choose to take care of?
The German plant at Granum is also registered and entered in the national cultural heritage database. For now so long after the war years, with new generations who have not experienced the war, the physical remains after the war are transformed: they become cultural monuments. What do we choose to take care of? The owners of Granum have chosen complexity and to also include conflict-filled history." (Inland County Municipality by Nina Hildre)
The project is supported by the National Archives and Innlandet County Municipality
