Whale Safari! Get close to these giants of the sea in their natural element with skippers who get the very best feedback from their guests.
When you arrive, we will give you safety information. We show you on the map the areas where we will search for the whales. As we go, you will be able to learn more about the boat and its history while you sit comfortably and enjoy the landscape. We will provide you with warm clothes and boots before you go out on the deck. During the trip, you will learn more about the historic background of Tromsø city, its population and expansion, and also about the surrounding islands. You will also learn more about the traditions in Northern Norway, for example the fishing industry, while being served something warm to drink.
To find the whales, we search for the herrings, a key food source. If we are still and wait patiently, we experience that the whales will eventually come to us. In order to minimize any disturbance to the whales, we will stay no longer than 30 minutes at one place.
Olav Ringdal Jr. is a 72-foot former rescue boat, built in 1952. It is a great boat for any kind of weather and it was used to assist people and other vessels up until 1983. The boat is warm and cozy inside with a spacious deck outside that is well suited for enjoying the sea. The boat is quite robust and stable on the water, making it very comfortable.
