Join a truly unique journey through the distinctive coastal landscape of Solund! Meet the free-roaming wild sheep and learn how the local community has created a central grazing project – a living part of nature that helps preserve the cultural landscape

Experience the fascinating history of the Old Norwegian sheep, also known as the wild sheep – a direct descendant of the Viking Age sheep. On this tour, you will get up close to the free-roaming wild sheep while learning about life on the islands, both past and present. You will visit the hardy sheep that have lived alongside the coastal people for over 5,000 years and hear how they have worked together to maintain the landscape and heathlands through generations.

Hardbakke Villsaulag is a key reason why FjordKysten Regional- and Geopark was nominated as Norway’s contribution to the Council of Europe’s Landscape Award 2020–2021. On this safari, you will not only meet the wild sheep but also gain fascinating insights into Solund’s magnificent archipelago, from the formation of the landscape to life here today.
