The incredible film was shot from a rib at Lofoten this weekend. Now it’s spreading all over the world.
“Catch of the day” – plus a smiley. That’s the full description of the video that’s going viral on Facebook just now, showing a sea eagle that catches a fish in flight.
“We were out on a sea rib with a film crew from a Chinese magazine, in cooperation with Innovation Norway and the Northern Norway tourist board. They’ve been travelling around Norway to film fjords, valleys and Norwegian nature, for their website and virtual reality (VR) headsets,” says Kristian Nashoug to a local newspaper, Bodø Nu. He’s head of marketing at Destination Lofoten.
It was Nashoug who captured the amazing video, which he’s shared on their Facebook page, Lofoten.info.
At the time of writing, it has 63,542 views – and the number is climbing every time we refresh the page.
Their guide, Gunnar Sjeseth, was the one who spotted the eagle, and threw the fish into the air.
“He timed it perfectly. With a fantastic ‘aircatch’, the eagle caught the fish mid-air, and then flew away. It was a unique sight, and the comments afterwards are only positive,” says Nashoug to the newspaper.
Such a spectacular mid-air catch is a rare sight. Still, anyone can witness a sea eagle up close at one of the many wildlife safaris offered in the Lofoten Islands.
Northern Norway in summer holds all the ingredients for magical moments. This video could not have been captured at any other time or place.
