Wedding dress round trip

Why a Chinese couple is taking wedding pictures
all over Norway

Chinese Pi Yang (38) and Li Weri (24) are doing a round trip in Norway. Everywhere they go, they take a picture of her in a wedding dress.

Where: Tromsø, Northern Norway
Photographer: Yngve Olsen Sæbbe

Yngve Olsen Sæbbe, a photographer for the Tromsø newspaper, Nordlys, was on his early morning walk when he saw them.

In the midst of people on their way to work, he eyed a Chinese couple. She was wearing a wedding dress with a veil, he had a camera on a tripod.

"The light was really magical, with a thin layer of fog covering the Tromsø bay, explains Sæbbe".

A curious man, Sæbbe asked them what they were doing. They explained that they were on a two-week vacation in Norway, visiting Tromsø, Oslo and Bergen among other places.

And in each place, they are going to take pictures of her wearing wedding garments, even though they’re not actually married yet.

"They are kind of doing their honeymoon in advance. They’re just doing it as a funny project for their trip, the photographer says".

You can see more of his images of the couple on Sæbbe’s blog.

The weather conditions contribute to the extraordinary atmosphere of the images.

"The sea fog that sails toward the mainland through fjords and straits in the morning. The clear air. These are dream conditions for us photographers walking around with a camera".

Yngve Olsen Sæbbe has been working as a photographer for Nordlys in more than 30 years.
