The Gjøvik region and Ringsaker

Enjoy the good life in the countryside! Toten, Søndre Land, Gjøvik and Ringsaker offer wonderful local food, a rich cultural life, and Norway's largest lake.

Less than two hours north of Oslo you'll find Gjøvik, often called “the white city by Lake Mjøsa”. The charming town has a lively restaurant scene, and you can dive deep into both culture and nature experiences here.

Gjøvik is also home to Skibladner – the world’s oldest paddle steamer still in service. Do not miss this opportunity to travel back in time on a boat trip on Mjøsa! Afterwards, you can visit Gjøvik Olympic Hall, which was built for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics and is the world’s largest spectator hall inside a mountain. It is open to the public all year round.

Just south of Gjøvik is Toten, with a green cultural landscape and kilometres upon kilometres of hiking trails, cycling paths and cross-country skiing tracks. Along the way, you’ll find many farm outlets with local goodies on the shelves.

Søndre Land, less than an hour west of Toten, is also full of nature experiences. Go on a ride wit a velocipede car on the old Valdresbanen or take a trip to the nature reserve Dokka Delta National Wetlands Centre in the north end of the Randsfjord.

And if you take the trip to the other side of Mjøsa, to Ringsaker, you can stay the night in unique tree top hotels, go glamping or kayaking, and visit amazing farms that focus on local cuisine.

Families with children have a lot to look forward to as well, like the climbing park Gjøvik Klatrepark, the knowledge centre Vitensenteret Innlandet, and the water park Totenbadet. Then, go see some world-class art in Peder Balke-Senteret at Kapp.
