Nesbyen has long been ranked as one of Norway's best destinations for steep mountain biking. Now cyclists, even those without years of experience, can enjoy some of the country's most well-built bike trails.
The hillside called «Østsida» in Nesbyen, is ranked as one of the top destinations in Norwegian among mountain bikers. Speed, flow, technical challenges and a lot of fun are waiting those who brings their bike up to the viewpoint «Utsikten». This is the starting point for a dozen trails with varying degrees of steepness and difficulty start. Both beginners and professionals can have a good time here.
We recommend the following trails:
“Den Ravinde” is a truly awesome MTB experience, and perhaps one of the best trails in Norway for intermediate experienced bikers. The trail offers smooth berms, jumps and wonderful flow through the pine forest. The substrate of hard-packed gravel can withstand both heavy rainfall and heavy traffic. RED GRADING
«Den Tærige« is the least steep trail in this hillside, and a nice warm-up trail. Quite rocky in the beginning, but soon gets really smooth. RED GRADING
"Snøggen" (meaning "The Fast" in the local Halling dialect) is the oldest bike trail in this hillside. The trail mostly follows old timber trails and offers natural berms and high-speed sections over rocks and roots that require concentration. BLACK GRADING
“The Jartuge” (meaning "The Brave" on the local Halling dialect) is quite steep and rough at times, and has been used for the Norwegian Downhill Championship. Below the gravel road (Midtlivegen) the trail runs over some steep rocky sections. It is a good idea to inspect these before your first ride. BLACK GRADING
All biking at your own risk. Be friendly to hikers you meet, and always be prepared to stop when you meet other people on the trails. The trail is of course completely free to use, and starts by the viewpoint “Utsikten”, 400 meters above Nesbyen town centre. From Nesbyen either cycle (30 - 50 min) or drive (10 min) up to the lake Trytetjern, then a few hundred meters on gravel road out to “Utsikten”, where most of the bike trails in this area start.
Have a look at the online MTB map www.trailguide.net for navigation and info about all the trails in the area.
Trailhead Nesbyen offers both guiding and shuttling for those who want to get the most out of their day. Book at Visitnesbyen.no or Trailheadnesbyen.no.
