Spend a week skiing across the Hallingdal mountains
Elevation: 816-1347 m above sea level.
Distance: Total 138 km
Duration: Approx 5 days
A majestic ski route in high mountain terrain along Hallingdal, from Ustaoset in west to Norefjell in the east. Hallingdalsløypa south, formerly known as the "Eventyrløypa", offers challenging and exciting tracks between well-known tourist areas in southern Hallingdal. Along the way you will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views. Invest a week and ski the entire route in one stretch, or select one or more shorter stretches.
If you want trips over several days with accommodation indoors, there are several possibilities along the way. Most accommodations require small avalanches from the main course, but the large road network makes this unproblematic. See more details about accommodation further down the page. If you are traveling with a tent, you will of course be free to lay down the steps at your own discretion.
The route starts at Ustaoset and passes through Grønebakken to Kikut. From there on the south side of the valley to the mountain Sangefjell, Veståsen and Nesbyen. Then pass Haglebu and Tempelseter (alternatively via Høgevarde) in Eggedal you end your journey at Norefjell (maybe you have earned a stay at the Spa-hotel?). If you want a shorter trip, alternative starting places are Kikut at Geilo, Sangefjell or Veståsen in Ål, Myking or Nystølkroken in Nes, or Haglebu.
Use the app / webpage www.skisporet.no for detailed navigation in addition to the map "Eventyrløypa 1: 150 000" which can be purchased at www.nesbyen-booking.no. In addition, the local hiking maps Geilo 1:50 000 (Nordeca), Nesbyen 1:50 000 (Nordeca) and Norefjell Eggedal 1:50 000 (Nordeca) can be useful. All maps can be purchased at www.kartbutikken.no.
Most of the Hallingdalsløypa south are being groomed on weekends and daily during holiday weeks from Friday in week 7 until mid-April. Preparations are done mainly with snow grooming machine, but some places with snowmobiles. Snow, weather and wind will always determine the quality of tracks. As the trails are mainly in high mountain terrain and affected by wind, it is impossible to keep the trails in perfect conditions at all time.
Hallingdalsløypa south is marked with signes. You can also use the local signs along the route to see the distance to the next crosspoint.
