Round trip from Bergen to Folgefonna Ski Centre including 5-hour guided tour on the glacier Folgefonna.

You can start this tour from the bus station in Bergen or from the quay in Norheimsund if you drive your own car.

From Bergen the bus takes you to Norheimsund and continues by boat from Nordheimsund to Herand. From Herad a bus takes you up Fonna Glacier Ski Resort.

Folgefonna is Norway’s third largest glacier and is covering a total of 200 square kilometres. From Folgefonna you have panorama view to the Fjord, Rosendal alps, and the North Sea in West.

Folgefonni Breførarlag, the glacier guide team, is waiting for you at the ski centre (1200 metres above sea level). On a guided five-hour hike you will have close contact with a unique natural environment and with the culture and history of this beautiful area.

The bus is waiting at ski centre after the hike, and takes you down to Herand quay from where you travel by boat to Norheimsund and the bus towards Bergen.

Blue ice trip in Juklavass glacier:
You will meet us in the morning breeze from the glacier. In anticipation of a different landscape ahead we find our way past running water and over burnished slopes of naked rock. At length we'll find ourselves up on the horizon and the glacier lies before us.

Interminable forces hardness in ice! We rope ourselves together and step out onto Folgefonna. We set off, through frozen valleys and past conical towers of ice, in search of a fairy tale in blue. If you seek excitement you may climb the 20-meter high precipices of ice. If, on the other hand, you seek a more meditative experience you will find it as we cross the thousand-year-old desert of ice; apparently at rest, but in perpetual change. Moving constantly towards its inevitable fate in the emerald waters of Lake Jukla. You will feel your spikes biting into the ice and the pleasure of teamwork with those who share the same climbing rope. You are safe in an alien world!

Finally you will feel how the white plateau lifts you up to give you a breathtaking view of the ocean to the west. Down at the fjord once more you will be embraced by the pale greens of young birches on the hillsides. You will probably now have the untouched glacier landscape and the view of the ocean in west branded into your memory forever!

The Glacier fall “Juklavass glacier” consists of both calm, flat ice and more challenging crevasse areas. The tour is adjusted to the participator wishes and condition. In the middle of the blue ice we take a break with view over the North Sea and the Rosendal alps. We tell you about the culture and the physical Geography. In the end we walk back in the afternoon light with fjord and Mountains below us.

The round trip from Bergen is available from 20 June to 14 August. The total season is from 10 June until 1 September (outside this season the glacier is covered with snow). Then we offer cross country skiing or snow shoes walking.
