Panorama hotel is a great starting point for a day or many days of paddling. The hotel has all facilities, and even rent out kayaks. The Fjord, the islands and the surroundings makes for the perfect venue for paddle sports. If the weather allows and you feel up for a adventure, make sure to explore the channels and coves at the southeast part of the "Austefjord".
Trip I: Panorama - around Tofterøy
This trip can be paddled in both directions, but the description is for a journey starting south. Cross over to the "Toftøy" island as soon as you can at the most narrow point. Be aware of traffic. Keep land on right following south. The headland is the crux of your journey being exposed to open water, waves and wind. If in doubt, don´t go out. Coming around the headland you are entering the narrow channels of "Hummelsundet" a beautiful and protecting area. Exiting "Hummelsundet" follow north. We recommend stopping at "Glesvær Café" for lunch, dinner, ice cream or other well deserved treats. Trip continues north into the passages around the northern end of "Toftøy", before returning south to the hotel.
Tirp II: Ramsholmen
Natural formations protect this trip from most weather, but on southerly weather you´ll have to be more cautious. Start paddling north from the jetty. The crossing over to "Toftøy" is best in the northern part of the fjord. Small coves, bays and shallow channels make it the perfect place for a quick or long stop, and at the right time of year, swimming and relaxing on the cliffs and slabs.
Trip III: Panorama - Forlandsvågen - Panorama:
A trip between islands and through narrow channels. Weather permitting the outer islands by "Bondishola" is well worth a visit. Trip starts following land to the south, at the opening to the sea be aware of weather, wind and waves. If you are questioning the weather, here is the best place to turn around and go back. If weather allows, a visit to the area around "Bondishola" is well worth your time. Narrow channels and a very calm and protected area for swimming and relaxing. Continue east and enter "Forlandsvågen" a well-protected natural harbour where you may find the beautiful sailing ship "Loyal" form 1877. Return is in your own wake, landing at the hotel
Parking is always a challenge for us paddlers. Here at "Panorama" though, it´s easy. The hotel lets us use the hotel parking. If there seems to be a full parking lot, ask at the reception what to do.
