Family-suited hike in the footsteps of the past dairymaids.

How to get there from Bergen: Startpunktet for turen til Sollidstølen ligg 93 km northeast of Bergen. Drive E39 northbound to Romarheim, turn to the right onto FV 569 towards Mo in Modalen. Continue 26 km on 569, and park on the shoulder by the suspension bridge at Farestveit. The drive from Bergen takes approx. 1,5 hours.

Estimated time: 1 hour round trip.
Grading: Blue moderate.
Difference in altitude: 100-350 meters.

The name "Sollidstølen" means "the mountain farm on the sunny hillside", and the area is still used as summer grazing for the sheep at Farestveit .

The route starts here at the information board. You cross the suspension bridge and follow the forest road to the right about 100 meters. You will then see a sign where the trail starts in the terrain to your left, shortly after you've crossed a small stone footbridge. There is some talus in the beginning, but you will soon find a clearly visible trail with blue markings. It starts off a bit steep, but the hike is graded as moderate, and is also suitable for children from 5 years of age.

When you have put the ascent behind you, you cross a stream and then a river over a footbridge. You will soon see the mountain farm on your right hand side, but the trail continues straight forward some 50 meters before you make a turn and arrive at the homestead of the old farm houses. One of the farm houses has been rebuilt a bit further up in the terrain.

Please remember to close the gate, as there are sheep grazing at Sollidstølen.
