Ørnehaugen is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Aukra. From the top of Ørnehaugen, you will have a great view of the Ormen Lange gas facility at Nyhavna, and of Bud and Bjørnsund. There are also several interesting information boards on the way up that are worth your time to read.
Route description: From the ferry on Hollingsholmen, follow the signs to Nyhavna. When you reach the Ormen Lange facility, park across from the Shell administration building. Keep the building on your right, as you walk by, until you reach an information board and a gravel road. Follow the tractor road to some picnic tables and benches, and then continue the path to Ørnehaugen. The walk takes approximately 1 hour.
Optional side-trip to the Aukrabolten rock: If you want to add a little extra to your walk, you can visit Aukrabolten. Just before the last hill up to Ørnehaugen, turn right. Be aware that the path is not signposted very clearly, and the terrain surrounding the rock is a bit rough. Keep straight and stay to the left until you see Aukrabolten, wedged in a gorge down by the sea.
