SMØLA
Edøy olc church

This stone church has a long plan, likely dating from around 1190, and stands as a beautiful landmark by the Edøy ferry quay on the island of Smøla.
Edøy Old Church is still in use but was protected as a historic site in 2002. It was most likely built as a private chapel for the king’s representative on Edøy.
In the early 1600s, the church was expanded. Today, it serves as a stunning and historically accurate backdrop for the play Fru Guri of Edøy, performed every summer on the amphitheater stage at the Gurisenteret.
