Kirkelandet Church or the Atlantic cathedral, is considered the first truly modern church building in Norway. The church marked innovation in Norwegian church buildings in many ways and has a distinctive position in post-war architecture.

Designed by the architect Odd Østby on the theme "Rock Crystals In Roses " and consecrated in 1964, this is perhaps Norway's most daring church building. When light flows through the 320 colour glass windows in all shades of red and yellow, the 30-metre high chancel wall is transformed into a symphony of colours.

The font is green on the outside - it is natural to think that the green symbolizes life on earth and the hope that is bright green. It is blue on the inside, which reflects the ceiling and the sky. Heaven and earth meets in baptism; God meets the young child.

The pulpit is solid but low, it would show that the speaker has the authority to speak the gospel, but does not stand high above the congregation.

During season the church is open to visitors on most weekdays.
