For lovers of outdoor life and Norwegian mountaineering history!
Norsk Tindesenter is a brand-new visitor centre in Åndalsnes, the «capital of mountains» in the heart of Romsdalen Valley. The centre was opened in 2016 and accommodates Norsk tindemuseum (the Norwegian mountaineering museum), Norway’s highest indoor climbing wall with routes for everyone between 3 and 103 years, a café, a restaurant and a gift shop.
In the museum you will find Norwegian and English descriptions, as well as guidance in Norwegian and English.
Additionally, the centre is a starting point for the spectacular climbing experience Romsdalsstigen Via Ferrata. Romsdalsstigen has two trails: the Intro wall, which is suited for most people, and the West wall, mainly for experienced mountaineers in good physical condition. Let the wind play with your hair and feel the tickleg in your stomach while enjoying the magnificent views and an arousing sense of achievement.
Norsk Tindesenter is open all year round.
Come visit and spend an exciting day with us!
You can join for the «full package» with a guided trip through the museum, films and interactive entertainment in the centre and reach new heights in the climbing wall. At the end, you can round off the day with a delicious meal while admiring the views of dramatic mountains and fjords.
If you buy a day pass, there is no time limit to consider while climbing the wall.
Norsk Tindemuseum (the Norwegian mountaineering museum)
Norsk tindemuseum is a unique experience and displays the historical development of “steep outdoor life”. Discover the fascination of mountain climbing and learn about the race between local and international climbers to become the first to reach the summit!
You can test your bravado when you dangle from a cliff in a hanging tent, whizz down the mountainsides like a base jumper – or shudder at the sight of how the safety and climbing equipment looked in their early stages of development.
Please touch the exhibition!
The exhibition displays 16 installations, showing you a variety of many exciting aspects of the sport of climbing. Children and adults can focus on being interactive by learning and playing.
True stories have been dramatized, old equipment has been brought to light and you can test your own climbing skills in this fascinating centre. You will also find several videos, illustrating images, documentation and texts both in Norwegian and English.
Carls Hall – Norway’s highest indoor climbing wall
Indoor climbers of all skills will find the perfect activity here at Carls Hall. The hall contains 60 different climbing routes with various degrees of difficulty spread on 20 bolted holds. Storveggen (the great wall) has routes with a height of up to 21 metres with a light overhang.
You can use your own climbing equipment or borrow it from the reception.
Everyone can climb but climbing with ropes requires that the belayer has the Norwegian license “brattkort” or the equivalent from another country. Auto belay is an alternative if you climb alone.
In the bouldering wall, you can practice climbing without ropes. Tiny tots can unfold in the bouldering cave, a special area for children ages 3 and up.
Spiret spiseri - Café and restaurant
Try a delicious, mountain-inspired menu like Tindeburger, mountain pizza with reindeer meat, sausage from Bjorli, refreshments from the local soda factory Oscar Sylte Brusfabrikk in Molde or local, dewy drops. Both hiking boots and party shoes are welcome!
Romsdalsstigen Via Ferrata
Romsdalsstigen Via Ferrata is a unique experience not to be missed - make ready for an airy ride with a fantastic view!
Via ferrata is Italian for «iron ladder». Following these tailored paths, you can climb the rock wall without being a mountaineer and choose from two levels of difficulty.
Equipment or a guided trip to Romsdalsstigen via ferrata can be ordered at tindesenteret.no or in the reception area.
Museum shop
In the museum shop you will find books, hiking maps and other quality goods related to the mountains and Norwegian mountaineering history. Tax free gifts are available for all foreigners. The gift shop is open to everyone with or without an entrance ticket.
