Via Ferrata climbing offers a spectacular and safe way of experiencing Romsdalen from above. Using a network of steel cables, ladders and aids, now almost everybody can enjoy climbing and the spectacular view it brings. You don't need previous climbing experience to participate on a guided trip!

The Via Ferrata style of climbing used today originated in Italy for soldiers to ease the climb up the Alps to strategic outposts during World War 1 using pre-fixed steel cables, ladders and artificial aids. Because this style of climbing provides a fast, light and more secure way to access steep terrain it has been rapidly spreading and today you'll find this technique used many places outside of the Alps. Via Ferrata climbing is a relatively new term in Norway and this year we added two new routes to our destination letting you experience Romsdalen in a spectacular new way. Get ready for an unforgettable experience and the sheer view of the fjord while climbing is a must-do!

The West Wall is our adventure route. Previous climbing experience is recommended and climbers must be in good physical shape both strength- and endurance wise. This is currently Norway's hardest and most exposed Via Ferrata climb which is why we recommend careful evaluation of one's own skills prior to this climb. The route is graded D on the Via Ferrata International Scale. The West Wall is sustained, vertical and thrilling even for experienced climbers. Total duration is 7 hours (incl. descent) and has an elevation gain of 551 metres with several exposed wire bridges. The top of the route ends atop of Nesaksla.

Information, guided trips and rentals can be found in the Norwegian Mountaineering Centre in Åndalsnes.

Requirements: Participants must be 16 years of age or older. Minimum weight: 40 kg. Participants are only allowed to use safety equipment intended for Via Ferrata climbing. If you climb without a guide every person in the group must have climbing experience.
