Trollveggen

The Romsdalen valley is long and narrow with majestic towering mountains on either side. Scandinavian rock climbing started in the Romsdal mountains, which boast some of the world's most difficult climbs. In the eighties, base jumping with parachute was banned at this site after a number of accidents with very expensive rescue operations. But Trollveggen still is a very attractive site for climbers and tourists.

On the opposite side of the valley, the Romsdalshorn peak towers to a height of 1,555 metres. By the E 136 road, at the foot of Trollveggen, there is a picnic area with a nice cafeteria, souvenirshop and toilets. It's highly recommended that you take a stop at Trollveggen Besøkssenter, where you can also watch the incredible film about the Trollveggen history of base jumping. Outside there is a popular children's play area and a marvellous view of the mountains.

To learn more about the Norwegian mountaineering history you can visit Norsk Tindesenter in Åndalsnes. Stories and facts are communicated by means of interactive exhibit technology and objects from the museum's Collections. You can watch a spectacular film in the auditorium.
