Botsvatn - Dåren

A hike through varied terrain and great views that can be done in combination with other hikes.

Starting point

Take road 105 from Jondal towards Folgefonna glacier. After 8.0 km turn right just before the bridge. Close to the road junction there is an information board with details of hikes in the area. This is a toll road for those continuing by car. The pay point is about 100 m in from the main road. After 2.0 km take a gravel road down to the left hand side. Continue 4.1 km until you arrive at the lake, Botsvatn. Park your car here and find the hiking signs showing the directions to both Jonstein and Dåren. Parking at own risk.

About the trail

Take the trail towards Dåren. You will soon arrive at a bridge, after which you continue over a marshy area and towards the mountain cabins at Sjusete. The hiking sign shows the trail turning towards the right just before the bank up to the cabins. It continues on marsh ground and then makes its way up the hill and through the birch woods, towards Dåren. The end of the hike is at a singular rock on the mountain ridge. At this point you can find the hiking sign showing the route to Vassenden. There is also an unmarked route eastward to Jonstein. This hike makes a great round trip in fine weather.
