HM Queen Sonja of Norway is a passionate mountain hiker, and this is one of her favorite hikes in the Hardangerfjord region. The trail is in the high mountains between Kinsarvik and Lofthus and offers magnificent fjord views.
HM Queen Sonja of Norway is a passionate mountain hiker, and this is one of her favorite hikes in the Hardangerfjord region. The trail is in the high mountains between Kinsarvik and Lofthus and offers magnificent fjord views. The hike is long and demanding with a steep descent towards Lofthus. You will walk through forests, high mountains and lush orchards. Follow the dirt road from Røte up to Heng at 750 meters above sea level. From here the trail is marked with blue Ds (“Queen” in Norwegian is “Dronning”). The route down to Lofthus, including the “Monk steps”, is marked with red Ts. You may also start in Lofthus and end at Røte.

Leave route 13 in Kinsarvik near the ESSO gas station, and follow the road as far as it is covered by tarmac.
