Try a short summit tour in Hardanger! Lilletopp in Tyssedal offers a fantastic view over the Hardangerfjord. The café on the summit provides good homemade coffee and light meals.
Take a short summit hike in Hardanger with unbeatable views! Lilletopp in Tyssedal is located between the two national parks Hardangervidda and Folgefonna. From the summit, sitting on the edge of the mountain, you can enjoy the view over the magnificent landscape of Sørfjorden, part of the Hardangerfjord. The listed hydropower plant, consisting of a guardhouse at Lilletopp and old water tunnels in the mountain, gives this hike an additional highlight.
ABOUT THE TRIP (approx. 45 minutes one way)
The parking lot is located at Tyssohallen. From here, you walk about 15 minutes on a small road before you take the half-hour hiking trail in historic surroundings towards Lilletopp. The view is fantastic, and the hike follows the visionary work of generating electricity using hydropower that started around 1900. The walk from the parking lot to the guardhouse at Lilletopp is self-guided.
In the guardhouse, there is a café with good homemade coffee and traditional, light meals in high season.
From here, guided tours into the old water tunnels are offered (NOK 60, daily at 1 pm and 4 pm during the season). The guides will tell you interesting facts about the history of hydropower generation and show you pictures from the, back then, risky work of building the power plant. Within only two years, construction workers and engineers have managed to generate electricity from the water at the Hardangervidda, which was then used to power the local fertilizer and carbide factories.
PARKING
Before the hike, a parking ticket can be picked up at the Kraftmuseum on the quay in Tyssdeal. The parking lot itself is next to Tyssohallen, in the upper part of Tyssedal.
