Season (average year): June – October. There is a risk of avalanches outside the season.
This is a trail going through typical West-Norwegian farmland, with view to the Hardangerfjord, mountains and Folgefonna glacier. The natural landscape is beautiful, but also merciless. There are many avalanches here during winter and spring.
In the area along the trail, the houses have several places been built close together, in what we call cluster farms. This was the common way of living in rural West-Norway, before modernization of agriculture took place in the 20th century. Agatunet is a good example of such a “village”, with buildings dating from between 13th and 20th centuries. Due to the many avalanche paths in this area, the spreading of settlement has not been entirely possible. Avalanche barriers protect people and buildings.
