Swan Lake meets Norwegian fairytales

Step into the enchanted forest where swans and the Nøkk await! The Norwegian National Ballet presents a condensed retelling of Swan Lake.

This much-anticipated visit brings A Tale About Swan Lake – choreographer Cina Espejord’s fresh take on the world’s most famous ballet – to Stavanger. This story follows Odette and her younger brother Siegfried, their sibling bond, and the mysteries of the unknown.

The Forbidden Forest
It’s summer festival time in the village. Children play, adults dance, but no one notices when Odette disappears. Has she gone into the forbidden forest where a child once drowned? They search for her. Weeks turn into years – only her brother Siegfried keeps looking.

Swan Lake for the whole family
Expect swans, pointe shoes, and Tchaikovsky’s legendary music – but also the eerie Nøkk, drawing you toward the deep forest pond. What happened to Odette? Can Siegfried find her? What pulls some of us toward darkness?

Up close with the dancers and the drama
Featuring the Norwegian National Ballet, students from the Ballet School, and violinist Terje Tønnesen, this is a full classical ballet in a compact format, choreographed by Cina Espejord. Set design: Katja Ebbel, lighting: Paul Vidar Sævarang, costumes: Martin Dauchez.
