Get tickets hereLuigi Boccherini (1743-1805) was born in Lucca in Tuscany, Italy. He was a master of the cello. He composed more than 250 works of chamber music for strings (trios, quartets, quintets).
In 1768 he moved from Italy to Madrid, where he entered the service of Prince Don Luis, the youngest brother of the King of Spain. Boccherini's Stabat Mater consists of many concert arias and follows the Italian singing style. Boccherini chose the intimacy of a chamber music setting for his Stabat Mater, uniquely written for a solo soprano and a string quintet. Viennese-trained Polish soprano Kornelia Szczypka takes the soloist role and is accompanied by a string quintet led by French violin virtuoso Philippe Graffin.
