Keep an eye on Anna Anderluh! The Austrian music scene may not be widely known, but here we have a versatile singer, composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist. She is renowned for blending delicate, thought-provoking songs with playful experimentation and improvisation, all while maintaining pop music’s accessibility. Her lyrics, in both English and German, offer a light critique of modern life. She often accompanies her vocals with unconventional instruments.
In May 2021, she released her debut solo album, Leave Me Something Stupid. The album explores the necessity of the meaningless, the daring, and the foolish, bridging the gap between tender poetry and sharp social critique. Her music, which she describes as Pop mit Riss ("pop with a crack"), ranges from fragile, simple melodies to experimental vocal improvisation.
The Austrian-born Anderluh has a broad musical background, having studied jazz and improvised music, as well as vocal physiology at the Lichtenberg Institute in Germany. Her work is characterised by a genre-defying approach that spans theatre, musical theatre, literature, performance, jazz, improvised music, pop, and contemporary classical music.
Anna Anderluh’s unique combination of musical skill, experimental curiosity, and stage presence makes her a standout figure in today’s European music scene.
