The Stavanger Oratorio Choir, led by conductor Harald Eikaas, invites you to an atmospheric concert with both choral works and soloists in a magnificent church setting. The programme includes Antonín Dvořák's Mass in D major, performed in a rare version with harmonium, double bass and cello - as it was originally presented during its first public performance in 1888. In addition, the choir offers two beautiful a cappella works: Locus Iste by Anton Bruckner and Unser lieben Frauen Traum by Max Reger, both examples of masterful motets written by composers with deep roots in organ and church music.
The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's magnificent Prelude and Fugue in C minor, performed by organist Viggo Fagerjord, whose virtuoso interpretation elevates Mendelssohn's dramatic and lyrical expression.
The choir is joined by a strong team of soloists: Maria Mortensen (soprano), Alisa Protsenko (alto), Jon Bjørnar Sandve (tenor) and Jakub Niedziela (bass). In addition, talented musicians such as Per Kristen Krogseng Mørk and Elisa Maria Stampe Nielsen on double bass, Diana Johanna Stampe Nielsen on cello and Viggo Fagerjord on organ and harmonium contribute, giving the concert a distinctive tonal depth and historical authenticity.
This will be a rare opportunity to experience Dvořák's mass as he originally wrote it, combined with other gems from the treasury of church music. We warmly welcome everyone to an evening filled with beautiful and timeless music!
