Hjelmeland Big Band
Hjelmeland Big Band considers itself a regional outpost in the big band family in Rogaland. The members are roughly half from Hjelmeland and half from Strand, with a few from Stavanger. John Gunnar Akerø is the musical director.
Hjelmeland Big Band aims to expand its funk repertoire. The idea is not fully realised yet, but the band will likely sound a touch funkier than before.
Plattform9
Plattform9 is a mini big band consisting of six brass players and three rhythm section members. Original handwritten arrangements have been restored by trumpeter Leif Hogne Rygh and include music by Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Bennie Moten, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. The band also has its own house composer, pianist Paul Gillespie.
Equinor Big Band
Equinor Big Band performs Duke Ellington! Across changing times, Ellington wrote groundbreaking and innovative music spanning from 1930s evergreens to more experimental works such as the "Far East Suite", created after a long world tour in 1963. ESB also performs its own version of Charles Mingus' "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love", written as a tribute to Duke, who passed away in 1974.
Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble
Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble will perform compositions and arrangements from the jazz scene at the Faculty of Performing Arts. In addition to newly student-written music, a hymn will be presented in a new arrangement by Thomas Torstrup. The musical director of the ensemble is Simen Kiil.
