Rita and Margit deliver a concert experience that not only honours women in blues history but also highlights the crucial role women have played in the evolution of music. Their contribution is a valuable part of both Norwegian and international musical heritage.
In their performances, the duo presents a selection of their own songs, alongside well-known and lesser-known tracks from female artists who have left a strong mark on blues, folk, soul, gospel, and rock.
Janis Joplin, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Memphis Minnie, Ida Cox, Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Elizabeth Cotten, Billie Holiday, and Norway’s own Kristin Berglund are just some of the women celebrated during the concert.
Rita Engedalen and Margit Bakken have gained recognition for their deep and powerful interpretation of the original blues tradition.
