DYKDYPP is a young and energetic quintet with roots in the jazz programmes at NTNU in Trondheim and Grieg Academy in Bergen. The band explores the intersection of groove, free improvisation, and soundscapes – always with openness and joy that draws listeners into their distinctive universe. Here, it is possible to dance and cry, perhaps even at the same time.
The lineup is as unusual as it is cohesive: guitarist Arin Myklebost Gran paints soundscapes with uncompromising tone and soaring lines; saxophonist Åsne Fossmark lifts with tasteful solos and lyrical tension; cellist Selma Edwards Granly moves seamlessly between delicate melodies and raw power; double bassist Johannes Lykkås drives the music forward with rhythmic precision and playful turns; and drummer Linus Solvang brings everything together into a dynamic, pulsating whole.
Since its formation in spring 2022, DYKDYPP has made a mark as a fresh voice in Norwegian jazz, with concerts in Trondheim and appearances at festivals such as Jazzfest, Oslo Jazz Talent, Moldejazz, Dråpefestivalen, and Jammin' Summer Session – Jazz à Juan (Antibes, France).
"Fjæring" – the first single from the debut album – will be released Friday, 10 October.
