“Retellings” – an exhibition by Inger Johanne Rasmussen
This exhibition showcases a selection from Inger Johanne Rasmussen’s rich body of work, with several pieces created especially for the occasion. It offers a rare opportunity to experience brand new works alongside earlier creations.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 31 May at 14:00, with an introduction by Eva Wathne, former director of Hå Gamle Prestegard.

Rasmussen’s work is complex and multifaceted, drawing on both art history and cultural history. She finds inspiration in craft traditions and folk art. Her textiles evoke memories of home, family, and comfort – but also life's darker moments: illness, grief, and war.

Through her art, Rasmussen invites the viewer to recognise personal memories and emotions reflected in the fabric and patterns. The beauty of her work also holds space for vulnerability.

Born in Kristiansand, Rasmussen studied at the National College of Art and Design in Bergen and Konstfack in Stockholm. Throughout her career, she has established herself as a key figure in Norwegian textile art.

She has worked as a university lecturer, written several books, received numerous grants, and held extensive solo exhibitions both in Norway and abroad. Her work has been acquired by 27 public museums and she has completed 54 public commissions.

Next stop: Kunstsilo, Kristiansand

After its showing in Stavanger from 31 May to 10 August, the exhibition will travel to Kunstsilo in Kristiansand in autumn 2025 – returning to the artist’s hometown.
