A storytelling performance about the amazing corvids, with Marianne Stenerud.

In everyday life, crows are almost everywhere around humans. Hopping around the city, on your neighbour’s rooftop, or scavenging for food in your own gutter. They are such a common part of our lives that we barely notice them—or think about them.

But they are remarkable. As remarkable as the myths and stories told about them. There is no bird species in the world with more tales, myths, and legends than the corvids. In Norse mythology, for example, they are elevated to the divine as Odin’s two ravens, Hugin and Munin, and in North American myths, the crow brought the very sun to humans.

They are the wisest of birds and can be wonderfully mischievous if you take the time to observe them properly. These observations have inspired countless stories through the ages—and may inspire new ones.

“Corvids” was developed with support from Sandnes and Stavanger municipalities.

Marianne Stenerud is a full-time storytelling artist who has created numerous performances and projects over the past 19 years. Her work often draws on folk tales, legends, and myths, which she twists, reimagines, and reshapes to make relevant for contemporary audiences.
