Concert Description:

In 2024, the oldest dated langeleik in Norway celebrated its 500th anniversary. Ingrid Lingaas Fossum marked this occasion by creating an incredibly fascinating album documenting 12 older langeleiks, offering the world a chance to hear how the instrument might have sounded in the past, before langeleik music was "noted down after the organ." On this evening, Fossum will perform excerpts from the album, as well as music connected to Rogaland. We’ll hear a variety of langeleiks with different tonalities, representing the times and people Fossum speaks about. She will also share stories about key performers throughout the langeleik history, who have contributed to shaping the values she holds as a musician today. Fossum is one of Norway's foremost langeleik performers.

Khaled Habeeb, the Stavanger-based oud player, is behind another incredibly exciting project. In his release "Spor fra nord", he combines Arabic and Norwegian music traditions with stunning results! Habeeb, who moved from Syria to Stavanger in 2015, has spent considerable time immersing himself in Rogaland’s folk music. He has visited the folk music archive in Suldal, studied archive recordings, and made his own interpretations of traditional material on the Arabic string instrument, the oud. Joining him on hardingfele and fiddle is Astrid Garmo from Gudbrandsdalen. Garmo released a remarkable album in 2024, with tunes from her grandfather, Sjugurd Garmo. She is also a multi-instrumentalist, active in several other bands, including the eccentric folk-punk band Pumpegris.

Post-Concert:

After the concert, there will be an open dance floor with the possibility of more Rogaland music played on oud and langeleik!
