Retellings offers a selection from Rasmussen’s rich body of work, with several pieces created specifically for this exhibition. This gives visitors a rare opportunity to see brand-new works alongside earlier pieces.
The exhibition opened on Saturday 31 May at 14:00, officiated by the former director of Hå gamle prestegard.
A life dedicated to textile art
Born in Kristiansand, Rasmussen was educated at the National College of Art and Design in Bergen and Konstfack in Stockholm. Throughout her career, she has become a prominent figure in Norwegian textile art.
She has worked as a university lecturer, authored several professional books, received numerous grants, and held extensive solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her works are included in 27 public museum collections and she has completed 54 public art commissions.
Textiles as carriers of memory and stories
Rasmussen’s works are complex and multifaceted, referencing both art history and cultural heritage. Drawing inspiration from folk art and traditional crafts, her textiles evoke memories of home, family, and comfort — but also touch on darker themes such as illness, grief, and war.
Her art invites viewers to recognise personal memories and emotions in the fabrics and patterns. The beauty of her work also holds vulnerability.
Next stop: Kunstsilo in Kristiansand
After the Stavanger run (31 May – 10 August), the exhibition will travel to Kunstsilo in Kristiansand in autumn 2025, returning to the artist’s hometown.
