‘Best Wishes - A Shortcut to I Was a King’ marks an unprecedented 20th anniversary for the south-west Norwegian band, who are one of Norway's foremost representatives of an increasingly endangered DIY/underground pop scene.

The compilation album, which will be released on 7 March, is a summary of the music I Was a King has produced from 2005 to 2024. They stand firmly by their belief in good melody, where their kinship with groups such as The Byrds, Big Star or Teenage Fanclub is by no means a secret, but rather an enormous strength.

The band has made a name for itself with several Spellemann nominations and chart placements, and has received rave reviews both inside and outside the country. In their tireless quest for perfect pop and sonic bliss, the band has previously collaborated with international greats such as Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, Sufjan Stevens, Robyn Hitchcock and Bill Rieflin of R.E.M. and King Crimson.
