The various collections of texts known as "the Bible" are far more than sacred scriptures for Christians who believe they find the word of their god there. The Bible is a symbol with social, cultural, and political power—even in cultures we tend to consider post-Christian and secular.
Weaponising the Bible is not new, but today it is a central element in the ongoing construction of what is called "Kristianism"—a blend of nationalism and Christianity central to the far right's rise within and beyond Europe.
What do we know about the Bible’s role in the rise of Kristianism internationally—and where is it visible in Norway?
Lecture by Jane Haug Skjoldli, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
The event is part of Kapittel – Stavanger International Festival for Literature and Freedom of Expression, 17–21 September 2025.
