DAVID HELBOCK'S RANDOM / CONTROL: TOUR D 'HORIZON - FROM BRUBECK TO ZAWINUL

More than 20 instruments on stage, but only three musicians: David Helbock, winner of the Austrian Outstanding Artist Award, is back at Maijazz. David primarily plays instruments with keys. Johannes Bär plays everything in brass, from trumpet to bass flugelhorn and tuba, and Andreas Broger plays the wind instruments such as saxophone, clarinet and flute. Their latest project Tour d 'Horizon, released on record label ACT last year, was inspired by David Helbock's inspiration from his favorite jazz pianists, and he arranged their most famous tunes for this particular trio. New, exciting versions of Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock or Bolivia by Cedar Walton appeared - but also soft, atmospheric pieces like Keith Jarrets My Song. Over the years, Random / Control has developed a distinctive sound, which is always an exciting rollercoaster for the ear and the eye. Or as Bavarian radio's Roland Spiegel wrote a few years ago: "The listener experiences something new when David Helbock plays. And it's never top-heavy music - it's music that thrills the body and the mind."
