Overview

An open relationship with musical genres combined with a constant search for new ways of expression has led Sigurd Hole to a personal voice as both performer and composer. His first release in his own name, the solo double bass album "Elvesang", was released in January 2018 to brilliant reviews around the world.

Norwegian folk music and minimalism in classical music are important musical inspirations, and nature is a fundamental driver.
On 14 February 2020, Sigurd released a new solo double bass album; the double album "Lys / Mørke". The album is recorded on the island of Fleinvær outside Bodø, and has a very special element of interaction with natural sounds on the island (wind, birds, waves). "Lys /Mørke" was presented to the world on 3 February in the form of an exclusive pre-release concert at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, New York.
- "Atmospheric solo bass" (Giovanni Russonello, The New York Times. Critics pick)
- "... an album of profound beauty" (John Kelman, allaboutjazz.com)
- Jazz News (NO): "The songs are beautiful, the sense of timing and drama great - and his performance, with laser sight intonation and blur clouds of overtones, is lavish."
