A raw, poetic tale of love, shame, and awakening – Nothing Grows by Moonlight brings Torborg Nedreaas' classic to the stage.
Get tickets hereWhat life do we dream of? In our youth, where do we feel we are heading? And as adults, where did we end up?
During one intense night, a woman tells the story of her life. About falling in love with the boy she met as a teenager – a love that never faded. About a crooked relationship that had to be kept secret. A love life lived only at night, in the moonlight. Small, hidden moments of happiness, quickly tainted by the shame in others’ eyes.
Almost thirty years before the law on self-determined abortion was passed in Norway, Torborg Nedreaas published her first novel, Nothing Grows by Moonlight, striking Norwegian literature like a bolt of lightning. It was a brutal, raw, and brave novel, portraying aspects of women’s lives that had never been written about before. The direct, detailed depiction of a self-induced abortion was taboo-breaking at the time and has since made a profound impression on generations of readers. The book also portrays a political awakening and stands as a powerful moral reflection on what it means to be a responsible human being.
