During her studies and early in her career, contemporary music was the most important genre in Steinsland's performances. In addition, Steinsland has participated in contemporary music productions with the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra, the Norwegian Wind Ensemble and the Oslo Sinfonietta.
Steinsland has now resumed writing new music for recorder in the duo Dahl/Steinsland Band. In addition, traditional music on the popular sea flute is an important part of her repertoire.
