Welcome to Songs by the Sea – a romance concert featuring soprano Marianne Folkestad Jahren and pianist Erling Ragnar Eriksen. Together, they will perform the song cycle Sånger vid Havet by Swedish composer Gösta Nyström, as well as songs and preludes by French composers Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré.
Songs by the Sea celebrates the love of the sea, nature, and humanity.
Performers:
Marianne Folkestad Jahren (soprano) is a classical singer with an international career. She has performed at prestigious opera houses such as Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Marianne has taken on numerous opera roles in Norway and abroad and is also an accomplished concert artist. In 2008, she was awarded the Arve Tellefsen Talent Prize.
In 2025, she will perform La Voix Humaine by F. Poulenc with Opera Rogaland.
Professor Erling Ragnar Eriksen has taught at the University of Stavanger’s Faculty of Performing Arts and has also been affiliated with the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo since 2009. A renowned pianist and accompanist, Erling has performed extensively in Norway and internationally. In 2007, he received acclaim for his complete recording of J.S. Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (UiS). In 2000, he was honoured with the prestigious Grieg Prize.
