San Francisco in the 1960s. A group of young boys gather for one last night together before being shipped off to Vietnam. They agree to have a ‘dogfight’, a bet where the one with the ugliest girl wins the pot. Eddie invites Rose to join him. By the time he realises he really likes her, the game is already blown and Rose is both hurt and furious. Will he get a second chance? 

River Phoenix became the James Dean of his generation when he died very young at his mate Johnny Depp's nightclub The Viper Room in 1993. By then, the 23-year-old had starred in films such as Stand by Me, My Own Private Idaho and Running on Empty, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. Dogfight is lesser known, but a little gem of a film worth discovering.
