Stavanger Barokk presents a programme featuring favourites from the era that transformed the entire vocal genre within classical music.

Expect Mad Songs from England, elegant Air de cours and chansons from the French court, and expressive songs in various forms from Italy. A defining feature of early Baroque was the quality of the lyrics and the rhythmic flow of the vocal lines. At the beginning of the 1600s, textual expression was prioritised, whereas by the mid-1700s, virtuoso divas shone with dazzling coloratura over minimal text.
