Conversations about Estonian phenomena are often woolly and imprecise. To remedy this, Arnfinn Bø-Rygg has written an aesthetic encyclopedia. Such a publication does not exist in Norwegian, nor do other Nordic countries have such an encyclopedia. The aesthetic lexicon covers 743 key words. Some are long, some quite long and some ultra-short. Long words are e.g. beauty, atmosphere, taste. Appropriately long are e.g. arabesque, digression, hand. Ultra-short are e.g. lamp fever, pause. One of the main points has been to bring the reviews up to date. Arnfinn Bø-Rygg will talk about his experience of writing the Aesthetic Encyclopedia and discuss the importance of aesthetics in our time.
 
Arnfinn Bø-Rygg is professor emeritus. He has taught at UiS since 1977 and at UiO as professor of general aesthetics from 1997-2014. He has published books and articles on aesthetic, musical and cultural theory topics.
