GamlaVærket Gjæstgiveri & Tracteringssted is more than just a hotel, it's a tale of the city's history.

In the heart of Sandnes city centre, a one-minute walk from the train station and right on the cosy pedestrian street called Langgata lies one of Norway's most distinctive hotels and restaurants.

Its proud history

Its story began when a man named Lauritz Smith Pedersen established Sandnes Teglverk (Brickworks), or GamlaVærket (The Old Factory), as it was known locally. It grew to become a prominent tile production factory and continued to expand its production to several new branches. It was the first industrial factory not only in Sandnes, but in all of Rogaland county, successfully producing and selling clay products such as bricks, pots, and drainage pipes, among other things.

Today, the carefully preserved walls that Pedersen built for his factory over 230 years ago, transport the guests of GamlaVærket to an authentic glimpse of Norway's industrial history. With 28 romantic and cosy guestrooms, individually furnished and styled, GamlaVærket Hotel in Sandnes offers each guest a personalised experience with charming service and amenities reflecting a unique piece of Norwegian history.
