Join Outdoorlife Norway on their signature tour to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), which is gauranteed to be crowd free!

As the Lysefjord's pinoneer in nature guiding, Outdoorlife Norway offers authentic, small-scale guided tours into the Lysefjord and its surrounding mountains. Their dedicated team of friendly and professional guides enjoy sharing exciting stories about Norway’s cultural heritage and unique fjord wilderness. Having led more than 1,250 tours to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), and more than 450 tours to Kjerag, Outdoorlife Norway's guides have the knowledge and experience needed to ensure you a safe and memorable outdoor adventure.

While the vast majority of visitors hike to Preikestolen along the main trail during daytime hours, Outdoorlife Norway's signature sunrise hike allows you to experience the beauty of the Lysefjord in near-solitude. Hike to Preikestolen during twilight hours and catch the sun rising over the Lysefjord before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, then enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.

Tour Itinerary
After a (very!) early-morning pick-up, your adventure will begin with a 30-minute transfer to the base of the hiking trail, including driving the world’s longest undersea road tunnel. After a short briefing at the trailhead, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen. You’ll begin your tour in darkness, hiking with headlamps on trails that have recently been upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas. While the nocturnal wildlife watches, your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain, which includes bogs, forests, and glacier-scoured mountains.

After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, you’ll reach the Preikestolen plateau just before sunrise. After finding yourself a comfortable place to relax, you’ll watch as the first beams of sunlight climb over the horizon and illuminate the Lysefjord’s steep mountain walls. While relaxing, you’ll have ample time to take photos and enjoy a warm beverage and snack atop Preikestolen. Long before the first tourist-packed busses arrive from Stavanger, you’ll be on your way back down the trail to conclude your unique hiking adventure with a well-deserved breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge.

This hike is moderately-demanding: in 5-6 hours, you’ll hike ~8 km (~5 miles) with a total ascent of just over 500 meters (1,640 feet). It is suitable for participants who are in general good physical condition & have previous hiking experience.
