Welcome to Magma UNESCO Global Geopark! In the far south of Rogaland you will find an area with such a unique geology that we have been recognised by UNESCO. Here you walk on the same rock as on the moon; Anorthosite. Astronauts and scientists from NASA have even visited the area to prepare for taking rock samples on the moon!

The anorthosite extends along the west coast from Ogna in the north to Hidra in the south. 900 million years ago, this entire area was a huge magma chamber deep inside the earth's interior. In the east, the magma chamber is framed by Northern Europe's largest stratified intrusion. Many exciting geological processes have taken place here over 1 billion years ago, and the result is wild and untouched nature with unique minerals and rocks. Now this landscape invites to a variety of exciting activities.

Magma Geopark has developed 46 localities, all of which have been selected due to their completely unique natural and cultural heritage. These localities show the diversity in our area and offer experiences for most people who are interested in fresh air and exciting nature. From the slippery rocks and the wild coast to the mighty mountains and more than 6,000 lakes - only the imagination sets the limits for adventures in Magma Geopark. You will also find the world's only sandy beach consisting of moonstone here – beautiful Skadbergsanden!

Together with our partners, we offer a variety of activities in Magma Geopark. How about climbing in our spectacular Via Ferrata in Jøssingfjord? Exploring Magma Geopark in a kayak or by SUP? An exotic and wet experience with coasteering along our wild coast? Fishing trip with own fishing guide, with catch guaranteed? A tasty visit to one of our local food producers or GEOfood restaurants? A journey back in time at Dalane Folk Museum? Chocolate making at Egersund's very own chocolate factory? Wool workshop with wool from wild sheep? Rappelling and climbing in steep mountains - and maybe even in a mine?

We tailor experiences for you on request.
