Sølvberget Library and Cultural Centre

Sølvberget Library and Cultural Centre is located at Arneageren, right in the heart of Stavanger city centre. Sølvberget is Rogaland's most visited cultural institution, with more than 1.6 million visitors each year; a natural place to stop for both adults and children when visiting Stavanger city centre. Sølvberget is co-located with the Odeon cinema. The library has books on just about everything you can imagine, and you can borrow them for free. You can also have a sit down in the library, drink a cup of coffee, read, listen to music, play games, study, use our computers, print, scan and much more. Sølvberget also has one of the country's best film collections, and we show both new and old film classics in the Sølvberget Cinematek every week. On the first floor of the Silverberget Gallery, contemporary art is shown in various exhibitions all year-round. Book talks with authors every Thursdag at 12 You can meet the country's most exciting writers at Sølvberget every Thursday at 12 o'clock, for free. It is advisable to get there early and find a place to sit because these book talks have become an institution in the city. Make sure you don't miss our literary evenings that include in-depth interviews with the authors who everyone is talking about. Several times a year, we also invite national experts to delve into and discuss international news in the programme series called Global Morning and Evening. Every September, we arrange the literature and free speech festival called Kapittel, including big names from both Norway and abroad. The Kielland Centre The Kielland Centre opened as an integrated part of Sølvberget in 2019, and will continue the legacy of the city's great writer. The Kielland Centre delves deep into Norwegian classics and contemporary literature. You can also have a wander around The Kielland Centre yourself if you like. It is located in our building on the ground and third floors. Knowledge and experiences offered every day The most important thing for Sølvberget is the replenishment of knowledge and the experiences we offer the public every day, all year-round. Every week, there is reading out loud for children, a homework club, drawing workshops, language courses, children's theatre performances, genealogy guidance, board games and much more. The vast majority of our events and activities are free of charge.
