Snønuten (1606 m.o.s.l.) is the majesty of the SVR Ryfylkeheiane nature reserve and the fifth highest mountain in this part of Norway. With its pyramid shape it is an iconic sight, observable from almost anywhere on the highland plateau.
The hike up from Mostøl is tough and you should be in good shape to get up and back down on a daytrip. Far into the month of july, you will encounter a lot of snow on the flanks of the mountain, which will slow your pace.
If you consider doing this hike, pick a good and clear day, check out the weather forecast, bring warm and windproof clothes, suncreen and sunglasses against the reflection of the snow as well as a topogrpahic map and compass/gps. Consider spending the night at the nearby Energihotellet or Jonestølen, a newly erected cabin operated by Stavanger Trekking Association - this will give you a head start!
