St. Olavsormen is an esker: a long, narrow ridge of sand, gravel and stone from the last ice age. Legend has it that St. Olav defeated the Midgard Serpent and remains visible in the terrain.

At Eige, a short distance outside Egersund, lies St. Olavsormen – a spectacular landscape that combines beautiful surroundings with local history and legends. This unique ridge has long fascinated both locals and visitors alike, offering an extraordinary nature experience.

Defeated by Saint Olaf

According to legend, it was the Midgard Serpent that slithered up from the fjord and into the water at Eige. Here it was met by Saint Olaf, who defeated it. The worm was left behind as eternal proof of the victory, and the ridge was given its mysterious name – St. Olavsormen (St. Olav's Worm). When you stand here today, you can almost see the story unfolding before your eyes.

Getting to St. Olavsormen

From Egersund, it is easy to get to St. Olavsormen. Drive towards Tengs, turn off towards Bjerkreim and continue to Eige. After a short walk along the marked trail, a breathtaking view awaits you.
