Stavanger Art Museum offers a collection of distinguished Norwegian fine art ranging from the nineteenth century to contemporary art.

Stavanger Museum of Fine Arts offers a collection of distinguished Norwegian art ranging from the nineteenth century to contemporary art, as well as producing 3-5 temporary exhibitions each year, featuring both Norwegian and international, historical and contemporary art.

Of particular interest is the unique collection of paintings by Lars Hertervig (1830-1902), who was born in Tysvær by Stavanger, and whose romantic, powerful and highly personal landscapes still have a strong impact on the viewers. The museum also contains the Hafsten Collection, a former private collection of works by mid-twentieth-century painters, making the museum a national centre for art from this period.

Art experiences and creative joy for children at NONA

Stavanger Art Museum aims to be a meeting place for visitors of all ages, where guests, in addition to seeing and experiencing high-quality art, can also explore and express their own creativity. NONA, with its workshop Studio Nona and an exhibition space that emphasises interaction between artwork and viewer, is an important part of this initiative. In the workshop, visitors can explore their own creative joy through activities and workshops led by artists and the museum’s educators.

The museum is beautifully situated in the park surrounding the lake Mosvatnet, 3 km from the city centre.

One ticket grants admission to all MUST museums open on the same day.
