Tungenes lighthouse today functions as a museum and a cultural venue with exhibits, a gallery and a cafe.

Tungenes lighthouse at Tungenes, the northern end of Jæren and the beginning of the entrance to Stavanger. A lighthouse was established here in 1828 to guide fishermen into Stavanger. The lighthouse consists of four buildings: the lighthouse, outbuildings, and the lighthouse keeper's house. In 1984, the lighthouse was depopulated and replaced by a lantern on the skerry outside Tungeneset.

Tungenes lighthouse today

The site is primarily used as a cultural building with several activities on offer. Several exhibitions, such as the Maritime Collection, show how fishermen at Jæren utilised resources from the sea from the 19th century to the present day. You'll also find the Sørreime Collection, a great art exhibition of the works of Oskar Sørreime, a Norwegian draughtsman and painter who lived in Randaberg and had his studio at Vigrestad. The exhibition in the lighthouse dwelling itself shows how the lighthouse keeper and his family lived when they lived there until 1937.
